Whether your interest is classical or rock music, Taylor Swift or Led Zeppelin, our guitar teacher, Matt, is here to help you grow! Customizing your learning experience to your knowledge base, goals, and skillset is his speciality (well, that and sick riffs. Obviously.)

Fiddle students work with Jennifer, who has both classical and western swing training, and loves to teach fiddlers that technique and practice can be fun! (Plus you’ll be the life of any Texas party.)

Tammy Anderson instructs our piano students and loves customizing teaching styles - using both by-ear and traditional methods to create a relaxed, yet effective learning environment.

Matt Ellis teaches our ukulele students and has way too much fun jamming out on this cool little instrument (a great intro/addition to guitar skills, but also a star on its own…and a more portable one, at that).

Voice

Voice lessons at Mellis Music Studio are taught by Michelle Ellis - classically trained and willing to do goofy vocal exercises with you so you don’t feel silly, Michelle works with beginner to advanced vocalists to sing healthily, to improve form/sound, and to help you grow in confidence in letting that voice be heard!

New client lessons beginning with our owner, Matt Ellis, are $120/month for weekly half-hour sessions. Lessons with any of our other instructors are $120/month for weekly half-hour sessions.

Our studio home is located at 1217 East S. 11th St, STE C, Abilene, TX 79602 (in the same building as Freedom Counseling). By “Abilene directions,” we’re located directly across from the Social Security Administration office, headed east on S 11th toward Shotwell Stadium.

Here at Mellis Music Studio, we’re all about customizing the learning experience to the client! The first lesson is laidback and will consist of getting acquainted, establishing current level of knowledge and ability, setting musical goals, and reviewing songs that you’d like to add to your repertoire! We want you to be both comfortable with and excited about your time here. Whether you want to play classical guitar or sing Top 40 hits, it’s important to us that you’re looking forward to learning and that your lessons with us encourage that love.

Our instructors all schedule lessons on a weekly, recurring basis. This is intentional, as we believe weekly lessons are a vital part of become “fluent” in your instrument. For this reason, we don’t offer less frequent lesson schedules. You and your instructor will choose a time, and that will be your weekly appointment. Your instructor will make sure you have the tools and knowledge you need to practice at home and advance your skills!
